Wedged between Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve, Wavre is often driven through without a stop: wrongly so. The capital of Walloon Brabant and its surroundings pack a rare density of outdoor activities, 20 minutes from the capital. Here is our local selection, tested and approved.
For thrills: Archery Tag and paintball in the forest
Let us start with our own venue (we own it): in Bierges, on the heights of Wavre, 5 hectares of private forest host the region's only outdoor Archery Tag field and 4 paintball fields. 2-hour sessions from €30, from age 8, 7 days a week: the group activity par excellence for a birthday, stag party or team building, fifteen minutes from the Brussels ring road.
For families: Walibi and the Louvain-la-Neuve lake
Walibi Belgium, the country's most famous theme park, is in Wavre itself: coasters for teens, kids' zones for the little ones, and Aqualibi for rainy days. Ten minutes away, the Louvain-la-Neuve lake offers its walking and cycling loop, rowing boats in summer and Belgium's most atypical pedestrian city next door (Hergé Museum included for Tintin fans).
For walkers: the woods and countryside of Walloon Brabant
Around Wavre, waymarked walks abound: the Bois des Rêves in Ottignies (ponds, playground, fitness trail), the paths of the Dyle valley, or the rolling fields towards Grez-Doiceau. Walloon Brabant by bike also means the RAVeL network and dozens of kilometres of quiet farm roads.
For history: Waterloo 15 minutes away
The Lion's Mound of Waterloo and its 1815 memorial are a quarter of an hour from Wavre: 226 steps, a panoramic view over the battlefield and an immersive museum well worth the detour.
For food lovers: Wavre town centre
After the effort, Wavre's pedestrian centre lines up brasseries and terraces around the town hall and the statue of the Maca, the town's mischievous emblem. Groups leaving our fields often head there to extend the day: it is 5 minutes by car.

How do you reach Wavre from Brussels?
By car: 20 minutes via the E411 (exit 5 Bierges for our venue, exit 6 for Walibi). By train: the Brussels-Namur line serves Wavre station in about thirty minutes from Schuman.
Which Wavre activities work in the rain?
Aqualibi and the Hergé Museum are the safe indoor bets. And our Archery Tag and paintball sessions run all year round: the forest blocks much of the rain and the overalls do the rest.
